Solid shaft for all 02M and 02Q gearboxes has been tried and tested for years.
As soon as the torque increases above the permissible 350NM, the risk of the 4th gear being pushed away by the opposite shaft also increases. This means that the pair of 4th gear wheels no longer mesh properly - the result is that the tooth flanks tear off!
By pressing a special steel core into the input shaft, the hollow shaft becomes a solid shaft. This reduces vibrations and the gear wheels run together more cleanly.
